Las hermanas Rincón, Marcela y Maritza, directora y productora respectivamente, muestran su experiencia en este tipo de contenidos para niños, sabiendo utilizar cada recurso visual para mantenerlos entretenidos, así como la creación de un guion (también de Marcela) con una estructura clara y con un mensaje útil y de valor. Otra de las virtudes de El libro de Lila es que no es una animación con las pretensiones de copiar a Hollywood y sus fórmulas. De hecho, las evita y tiene su propio tempo, por lo que para algunos la película podría resultar menos comercial de lo que supone. Esto sería un error. El libro de Lila usa el lenguaje nuestro, nuestros acentos (caleño en este caso), su trama está basada en conflictos que nos pertenecen y pueden ser también universales, así como su iconografía. Anticipadamente las hermanas Rincón habían comentado que su inspiración estética se basaba esencialmente en el maestro de la animación Hayao Miyazaki. Las referencias a su filmografía son notorias en la paleta de colores y en personajes como la Guardiana de la Selva (en la voz de Leonor González Mina) y muy claramente con el Señor del Olvido (gran trabajo de villano del actor Jorge Herrera), en una referencia a Kaonashi de “El viaje de Chihiro”. En general la película tiene varios guiños a esta obra de Miyazaki, incluido el hecho que su protagonista sea una niña y sus decisiones, aun proviniendo de un universo fantástico, sean fundamentales para la historia.
