Obra cumbre del cine polaco «Faraón» es uno de los más grandes esfuerzos llevados a cabo por la cinematografía europea para dotar al cine histórico de verosimilitud. Gracias a una puesta en escena impecable, a una estudiadísima ambientación, a unos medios amplios (hasta el ejército ruso participó en el rodaje proporcionando miles de extras) y a un rigor apabullante esta obra es hoy en día uno de los mejores y más complejos ejemplos de cine histórico que pueden verse. Lejos de la edulcoración o el glamour característico del cine americano, el gran Kawalerowicz, invirtió tres años en sacar el proyecto adelante. Una obra de arte por donde se le mire.
