“Muerte en Venecia” siempre ha sido fuente de discusión entre los cinéfilos de todo el mundo. Desde quien la considera una obra maestra absoluta y la obra cumbre de Visconti, hasta quien opina que es un film fallido, decadente y de un esteticismo afectado que lastra negativamente el film. En cualquier caso “Muerte en Venecia” es sin lugar a dudas un film fascinante y se hace muy difícil, por no decir imposible, olvidar la serena belleza de sus imágenes bañadas en la sublime música del Adagietto de la 5ª Sinfonía de Gustav Mahler.

La fuerza poética que destila cada uno de sus planos no ha perdido nada de su fuerza visual con el paso de los años, y son el reflejo perfecto de la fusión de los universos Manniano, Viscontiano y Mahleriano, tres mundos distintos y a la vez complementarios.
